Intensive Bicycle Repair Class
It all starts with a little winter boredom, a wrench, and the thought “Maybe I’ll take my bike apart for a little pre-season cleaning….” Followed by, “Damn, how does that go back together again?”
This course is designed for anyone who would like to boldly learn the basics of bicycle repair and maintenance in a friendly and supportive environment. You will get real, hands-on experience using your own bike, becoming comfortable on keeping it running smoothly and clean between major tune-ups.

This series of 3 sessions cover the anatomy of the bicycle and bicycle tool use, going well beyond the basics of flat repair and lubrication, delving into brake and derailleur adjustments and the many details that escape notice until expensive parts need to be replaced. With this basic skill set, you’ll be ready to diagnose and repair common problems, becoming a more confident and empowered cyclist.
Areas of bicycle maintenance that will be covered include:
- Week 1 – Introduction to the course, flat repair and drivetrain basics.
- Week 2 – Gears, shifters, and brakes
- Week 3 – Hubs, headsets, bottom brackets and cranksets.
The class is a total of 6 hours, split into three 2-hour sessions. You will be provided Park Tool’s “Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair” – a $29.99 value – and be expected to bring your own bicycle. Tools will be provided.
